Franklin River
The Franklin River is a wild river in the heart of the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park in Tasmania's west.
It takes several days to paddle the river in a raft. It is very remote.
It was the object of Australia's biggest conservation battle in the early 1980s when Hydro Tasmania proposed to dam the Gordon River below the Franklin River. The river would have been flooded as a result. In the 1983 the Federal Government stopped the project and protected the river.
