Platypus
The platypus is a strange animal found only in eastern Australia, including Tasmania.
- egg-laying mammal (monotreme)
- detect electric fields and sense water movements to hunt prey
- eat freshwater invertebrates, larvae and small fish
- platypuses don't have teeth but grind their preys using 2 keratin plates in their mouth
- tail used for fat storage
- Tasmania is home to the biggest specimen
